Recently, our team travelled to Brazil as part of the GCEIP programme, marking an important step in the early stages of project delivery. The visit focused on listening, learning, and building a shared understanding with partners as we begin the first part of the project.

Based in São Paulo, the team spent time with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to gain deeper insight into the local context and the priorities shaping the city’s transport agenda. Central to these discussions was our work supporting agencies such as CPP (Companhia Paulista de Parcerias) and ARTESP (Agência Reguladora de Transportes do Estado de São Paulo), as we addressed with them the key challenges related to digital transformation and transit-oriented development (TOD).
A key highlight of the visit was seeing the São Paulo nos Trilhos (SPT) rail programme first-hand. As Latin America’s largest urban transport initiative, the programme aims to significantly expand and modernise the metro and rail network, improving accessibility while contributing to carbon reduction goals. Experiencing the scale and ambition of the programme on the ground helped bring into focus both the opportunities and the complexity involved in delivering such transformational infrastructure.
Throughout the week, the team delivered workshops, held meetings, and joined site visits to ongoing metro projects. These sessions provided valuable opportunities to explore current challenges, discuss strategic priorities, and identify practical next steps for collaboration. The exchanges also helped establish a strong foundation for ongoing engagement as the project moves forward.
The visit was an important moment in aligning expectations, building relationships, and setting the direction for the next stages of the programme. We are excited
to continue working closely with our Brazilian partners throughout delivery and to deepen collaboration as the project progresses.
