Crossrail International was proud to take part in the 2nd Workshop on Passenger Rail Transport in Brazil, organised by the Ministry of Transport with support from ANPTrilhos (National Association of Passenger Rail Operators).
The event brought together key decision-makers, technical experts, and international partners to explore how Brazil can unlock the potential of sustainable passenger rail and urban mobility.
Representing Crossrail International, Ian Lindsay, our subject-matter expert in land value capture and transit-oriented development (TOD), shared lessons from the UK’s experience in integrating major rail investment with urban growth. Drawing on insights from Crossrail (Elizabeth line) and other UK projects, Ian highlighted how effective planning, governance, and land value capture mechanisms can generate new funding streams and create thriving, connected communities around transport hubs.
The workshop also featured discussions on financing models, public–private partnerships, and the integration of rail projects with city planning; themes that sit at the heart of Crossrail International’s work worldwide.
Following the event, Leonardo Cezar Ribeiro, Secretary for Rail Transport at the Ministry of Transport, thanked Crossrail International for its participation:
“Your contribution, bringing the valuable experience of Crossrail and the TOD model, added an important international perspective to our discussions. Having Crossrail close to us at this stage – sharing lessons learned and global best practices – is truly inspiring.”
The dialogue reinforced the growing collaboration between the UK and Brazil in the rail sector and the shared commitment to building transport systems that are sustainable, financially resilient, and people-centred.
At Crossrail International, we’re proud to support partners around the world by sharing the UK’s experience in delivering complex infrastructure and helping cities and governments realise the wider benefits of rail investment.
