Crossrail International’s Paul Dyson was amongst privileged guests at the Institution of Civil Engineers’ headquarters in Westminster, London on 12 November 2019, attending Paving the Way Forward 2019-2024, an annual briefing on Indonesia’s economic and political policies for the next five years.

The flagship forum provided a valuable insight into Indonesia’s long-term vision for the development of its economy based on a broad programme of reform to enable growth and prosperity, whilst maintaining its commitment to carbon reduction.

Guest speakers included HE Dr Rizal Sukma, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UK, who delivered the keynote address; Dr Aida Budiman, Executive Director for Economics and Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Indonesia; Dr Ninasapti Triaswati, Senior Economist and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economic and Business, University of Indonesia; and HE Muhammad Lutfi, President Commissioner of MedcoEnergi.

Discussions also explored how Indonesia can play a strategic role for the UK in Southeast Asia and beyond. The event continued this year’s celebration of 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Kingdom which commenced in December 1949. The two countries maintain strong links, from trade and investment to education, arts and culture.
